Men's 1s vs Medics 1

Marton 1s travelled to Newcastle for their first away fixture of the season and returned with all three points after a professional 5-0 victory over the newly promoted Medics side.

After navigating a challenging parking situation, the team still managed to arrive in plenty of time for the warm-up. However, with many players facing a good 10-minute walk from their cars due to an event at the school, it could be argued that the warm-up was hardly necessary.

Marton started brightly, moving the ball confidently around the back, with Mark Dipple controlling the midfield and delivering an assured performance throughout.

The pressure paid off in the 11th minute from a short corner routine. A flick from Lewis Johnson was pushed into the air by the home goalkeeper. Joe Bethell reacted quickly, intelligently directing the ball into the ground to avoid any danger. The ball struck a defender's foot on the line before Callum Lethbridge forced it over. Following a brief discussion, the umpires played the advantage and awarded the goal.

Marton continued to dominate possession and earned a number of short corners. Their second goal arrived in the 28th minute when Lewis Johnson fired a direct effort into the middle of the goal, with the goalkeeper perhaps feeling he could have done better.

As half-time approached, the visitors extended their lead further. Callum Lethbridge grabbed his second goal of the afternoon to give Marton a commanding 3-0 advantage at the break.

The fourth goal followed soon after the restart in the 38th minute. A superb aerial ball down the line from Callum Lethbridge was expertly turned into the path of Kyle Walker by Eli Stephenson. Walker rounded the goalkeeper before calmly finishing into the bottom corner on his reverse stick.

With the points all but secured, Marton settled into a controlled pattern of play that frustrated the home side while still creating chances when required. The second half became somewhat disjointed following injuries to Chris Brown, who took a stick to the knee, and Kerr McEwan, who suffered a facial injury after a deflected ball from a team-mate loosened several teeth.

Marton rounded off the scoring in the 58th minute following a goalmouth scramble, with Eli Stephenson netting a deserved goal to cap a fine display and rubber-stamp his Man of the Match performance.
